INSIDER! Tour
HALF-DAY TOUR (2.5 HOURS)
This tour is created for those who already know the city and want to discover its less known and more characteristic corners. The itinerary includes a visit to the Domus of the Stone Carpets, a Byzantine-era residence dating back to the 6th century, where you can observe the very rich mosaic paves. Discovered as recently as 1993 during the excavations for the construction of a garage, this archaeological site is one of the most important finds of the last few decades and shows the opulence and love of Art and beauty by the owner who decorated his mansion in such elegant taste.
Walking along the streets up to Piazza del Popolo we will stop to observe the spaciousness of this “living room” of Ravenna that even today reflects the years of Venetian domination in its architecture. Now we reach the Rasponi Crypt and the Roof Gardens of the Palazzo della Provincia. The crypt is a small noble chapel commissioned by the Rasponi family and it contains an impressive mosaic floor. Dating back to the end of the XVIII century, it is the oldest part of Palazzo Rasponi which remains preserved.
The garden, with its beautiful fountain, has at its centre a striking neo-gothic tower and by going up a staircase you can access the part of the roof garden that affords the view of the beautiful Piazza San Francesco in front of the basilica.
